Clint Perring is a creative business owner with a passion for adventure, storytelling, and capturing beauty through his camera. As the founder of Kri8it Digital, he brings together strategic vision and creativity, while his love for photography reflects a deep appreciation for people, moments, and the stories that make them meaningful. Recently, he stepped away from the boardroom to capture results that are nothing short of breathtaking. From the profound silence of the ice shelf to face to face encounters with Emperor Penguins, his voyage from Cape Town was more than just a trip. It was a total perspective shift.
In this Q&A, Clint gives a personal account of his expedition to the icy edges of the planet. He describes a fascinating reality where the world’s most remote locations offer leaders a rare chance to unplug and find clarity in total silence. He shares the moments that left him humbled and awestruck, from otherworldly landscapes to the intimate quiet of the Antarctic wilderness.
Q: Travelling from Cape Town to Antarctica, for four days and nights, is described as “UNBELIEVABLE”. Did you believe it possible?
Honestly, not really. Most of the world’s great wildlife experiences demand time, proper time. Weeks, sometimes even more. The idea that I could leave Cape Town and be standing on a blue ice runway in Antarctica within 6 hours is ALMOST unbelievable. Multiple other surreal experiences, including the visit to the mighty Emperor Penguins, all within a week felt completely unrealistic. And yet, it’s all true, it’s possible for the very fortunate few who get to go.
Q: Once in Antarctica, Ultima flies out to the edge of the Continental Ice Shelf, to visit a colony of Emperor Penguins. Describe the experience:
It’s hard to put into words without it sounding exaggerated. The flight there was unbelievable. The sights of the ice shelf and the vast expanse from the air was something totally unexpected but thrilling. Then you see the colony as you circle over and land in complete stillness, nothing but ice, sky, and this vast silence. Emperor Penguins, in their natural habitat, completely undisturbed. There’s nothing but you, and them, on the edge of the world. It felt incredibly raw and real. One of those moments where you’re fully present because your mind can’t quite process what you’re seeing. What delighted me most was their innate curiosity, constantly shuffling over to say hi to these strange visiting creatures. A wildlife moment with a mix of awe and tenderness that is impossible to put into words.
Q: You visited the most remote continent on Planet Earth. Did it feel other-worldly?
Completely. It honestly didn’t feel like the earth that we are used to. There’s no sense of time, no distractions, no movement beyond what nature is doing (or not doing). It strips everything back. It’s quiet in a way I’ve never experienced before. Stepping into a world like that makes you realise how noisy and full our normal lives are; frankly, it changes you. You come away wanting and needing more of this in your life.
Q: Did you need to be tough, fit or brave to enjoy the experience?
Not at all. That was actually one of the biggest surprises. You don’t need to be an explorer or ultra-fit. The whole experience is incredibly well thought out, wonderfully supported and comfortable. Being there awakens a sense of adventure and a willingness to step into something completely different that I believe is hidden in every one of us. It’s far more accessible than you might think, made possible by the brilliant program on offer and an expert team that surrounds you.
Q: What were your top 3 moments?
First, opening the aircraft door and seeing the vastness of clean, clear, crisp ice for the first time, a moment that hits you immediately and stays with you forever.
Second, the flight to and being surrounded by Emperor Penguins. Nothing truly prepares you for that kind of intimacy and wonder. Closing my eyes now I can still hear the sounds and sense the presence of the moment.
And third, the vast stillness. Not a single moment, but the overall sense of quiet and scale that stays with you long after you leave.
Q: Who would you most like to take with you, next time, to experience what you did?
My wife, without a doubt. It’s one of those experiences that shifts your perspective and having her with me on such an important trip would be a gift we would treasure for a life-time.
